East Midlands Airport Information

It was not until the 1970's that East Midlands Airport started to expand and not until the late seventies that a second runway and terminal extentions were developed.For a period of 8 years National Express the coach operator owned the airport. They invested heavily improving it further and eventually selling to Manchester Airports in 2001.

Passenger numbers continue to increase and in 2001 exceeded to 2.38 million. There are 27 scheduled destinations and 46 charter holiday destinations that planes fly to from Nottingham East Midlands.

Getting to Nottingham East Midlands Airport

Nottingham East Midlands Airport is centrally located in the UK with good transport links.

  • By Car - The airport is very near the M1 and you will need to exit at Junction 24. If traveling from the Midlands then travel to the airport along the A42 then follow the signs.

  • By Train - Although there is not a railway station at the airport there are a number of local stations including Loughborough, Long Eaton, Nottingham and Derby which are all located just a short bus or taxi ride from the airport. All these stations are served by the main InterCity trains which are operated by Midland Mainline and Central Trains.
  • By Coach or Bus - The National Express Airport service 240 offers direct connections daily to and from Nottingham East Midlands Airport to a number of major towns and cities including Bradford, Leeds, Sheffield, Chesterfield and some London airports including Luton, Heathrow and Gatwick. There are a number of bus services that link the airport with local towns and villages and the cities of Derby, Leicester and Nottingham.
  • By Taxi - Taxis are operated by Checker Cars which are available from the Taxi Office, outside the Arrivals Area, 24 hours a day. Checker Cars: 01332 814000
  • East Midlands Airport Terminal.

    The main terminal building is open 24 hours a day as is the Information Desk. Messages for passengers may be left on a board nearby and there is a photocopying and fax service available for a small charge. There is a good selection of retail and catering outlets in the terminal and departure lounge and a list of those is below.
